Art Students Inducted Into Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony.  New members must qualify academically as well as volunteer their artistic services to the school and community. Ms. McEnery, the chapter’s sponsor, was pleased this year with the events which the Farmingdale group has supported: including making centerpieces for the AHRC holiday party and community career breakfast, decorating for the PTA fashion show, completing a mural for the senior center and for the science department.


BOCES Launches Special Needs Program

Nassau BOCES has created a program that will enable special education students to receive college credit as juniors and seniors in high school.

BOCES will team up with Farmingdale State College’s “University in the High School” program to offer dual-enrollment opportunities for those enrolled in any of Nassau BOCES’ Special Education schools.


Hiram Cowhey Skates Perfect Ten

Northside Elementary School second grade student Hiram Cowhey recently won first place in the dance choreography category at the New York State (NYS) Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Reflections contest. Reflections is the PTA’s cornerstone arts program developed to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves.

Cowhey’s entry exemplified the competition’s theme ‘The Magic of a Moment.’ His original ice skating composition outshined 563 statewide performers to earn him the NYS Parent Teacher Association Award of Excellence and qualify him for the national finals. Cowhey will showcase his entry at the 117th NYS PTA Convention in Saratoga Springs in November.


Woodward Parkway’s Little Ludwigs

Second grade students at the Farmingdale School District’s Woodward Parkway Elementary School recently learned a different form of note taking.  As part of a musical education lesson, the students wrote their own musical compositions and concluded the unit with a “Young Composers Festival.”  At the festival, students performed their compositions on the xylophone outdoors at the Woodward Parkway Courtyard for their peers to enjoy.


Troop 3348 Gives Back

Choir Plays Carnegie

The Farmingdale High School Chorus was chosen to participate in the National Youth Choir Program at Carnegie Hall. High School Chorus Directors Michelle Lindsley and Lauren LiCausi, worked with students for several months to prepare the music. After students fully learned the six pieces of music, students went to lower Manhattan from Friday afternoon until Sunday late afternoon for rehearsal.  Energy and enthusiasm mounted as the students were brought to Carnegie Hall for their pre-concert sound check. Performing in this famous venue was an event that students and parents will remember for a long time.


Knitting Fever

Farmingdale Revised Proposed Budget, Propositions

In a continuing effort to provide the Farmingdale community with in-depth information regarding the proposed 2013-14 budget, the Farmingdale School District hosted a fourth budget workshop on April 17. During this meeting, the district provided the community with an analysis of its budgeted revenue and expenditure projections. In addition, the community was provided with a review of proposed capital improvement projects and energy-related projects associated with the district’s energy performance contract.  The proposed tax levy increase of 2.35 percent stays within the tax levy limit.


Farmingdale Team Third At Ethics Bowl
