More than 30 Howitt Middle School students in the Farmingdale School District recently joined the school’s chess club. The program is designed to enhance the students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills by introducing them to the game of chess.
Under the guidance of club advisor Matt Szabo, the students participate in various chess matches after school and during their lunch period. Mr. Szabo is an experienced chess player, and offers the sixth graders various tips on how to improve and enhance their game.
