Julian Mates, First Dean of Visual & Performing Arts at C.W. Post, Dies at 83

Julian Mates, a professor of English at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and the founding dean of its School of Visual and Performing Arts, died Saturday, July 17 after a long illness. He was 83. Dr. Mates was remembered for his passion for the arts, his encyclopedic knowledge of literature and his prominent role in cultural events during a 51-year career.

Jean Willenbrock (nee Allan) passed away on July 11, 2010 in Thiensville, WI, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Salvation Army Commissioner and Mrs. John J. Allan. Beloved wife of 73 years of Bert Willenbrock. Her family celebrates the loving and joyous life all shared. After raising three children, Jean taught kindergarten in the Farmingdale Public schools for twenty years. She was a Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed her membership in the Women’s Club of Farmingdale. She was an active member of the Christian Science Church.
