As a business and restaurant owner in downtown Farmingdale Village I was extremely pleased with the turnout of people we had over the week of the U.S. Open. Beginning the few days before the Open and lasting through Monday we had people from all over the world coming through our doors. Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias and Mayor Butch Starkie stopped by every day to make sure things were going well.
In 2002 the Village of Farmingdale was a ghost town; the streets were closed and businesses suffered. I know firsthand how hard Dave and Butch worked with the USGA, the local Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce and the local media to encourage U.S. Open volunteers and ticket holders to visit Main Street during the week - it paid off! Thanks again to Dave and Butch and thanks to the USGA - we all look forward to next time the U.S. Open comes to Farmingdale!
