Friday, 16 April 2010 00:00I would like to encourage everyone to make a difference in the lives of critically ill children by joining in the Walk/Run for Friends of Karen at the Long Island Marathon.
Friends of Karen’s mission is to provide emotional, financial and advocacy support for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, in order to help keep them stable, functioning and able to cope. Friends of Karen serves children from birth to 21 years of age who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents residing in the New York metropolitan area. Since its founding in 1978, the organization has served more than 4,000 children and their families, and counting the siblings of sick children, has touched the lives of more than 10,000 youngsters.
I am proud to be a supporter of Friends of Karen, which provides such vital support to families going through some of the most difficult times of their lives. Services are offered regardless of race, color, creed, sex or handicap in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
The 5K walk/run will take place on Saturday, May 1 and both 10K half and full marathons will be held on Sunday, May 2 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Runners and walkers are welcome to join the Friends of Karen team. Volunteers are also needed in various aspects of the event.
