The Farmingdale Devils U9 baseball team continued their successful summer season by capturing the championship in the Plainedge Baseball Summer Tournament. The Devils went 8-0 in the regular season, including tough wins over the Farmingdale Greendogs and the the Bethpage Eagles.
In the playoffs the Devils defeated th Greendogs 15-5 and move on to face the Shelter Rock Redman. The Redman also went undefeated in the regular season. After falling behind by two in the top of the first the Devils responded quickly.
The St. Kilian CYO program will be holding registration for their girls and boys swim team for the upcoming season on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the gym lobby at St. Kilian on Cherry Street in Farmingdale.
Boys and girls in grades 1-12 are invited to register for participation on a travel swim team representing St. Kilian Parish. Practices are held Tuesday and Fridays at the Farmingdale High School pool. All potential swimmers must be able to swim at least one length of the pool. Each swimmer will receive a team swimsuit and tee shirt as part of the registration fee.
Among the list of top finishers on the Aug. 17th Inaugural Discover Hicksville Run was 32-year-old Ronnie Vichman of Farmingdale who was the 9th finisher overall and took home the first place award plaque in the 30-34 age group. Vichman’s finishing time of 33 minutes, 29 seconds brought him to the finish line37 seconds in front of his nearest competitor in the age group.
The 32nd Annual Invitational Golf Tournament was held at The Creek on Aug. 12 where many professionals joined together to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the March of Dimes. This year’s honoree was Robert Gilman of Plainview, CPA of Anchin, Block & Anchin, LLP. Other sponsors included Seyfarth Shaw, Bryan Cave, Deloitte, Jericho Capital, Merrick Financial Group, Michael & Darci Hirschberg, Meister Seelig & Fein LLP, Property Resources Corporation, TD Bank, and Lexus of Massapequa.
Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology (ZP) beat Paradox Cafe 20-10 Friday night. ZP pounded 25 hits and pitcher Brian Tinney kept a tough lineup in check to avenge a lopsided loss to Paradox just a few weeks ago.
ZP took the lead in the 2nd inning with one its most impressive innings of the year. The big blow was Tyrone Clark’s grand slam that capped a 10-run outburst.
The ninth annual “Main Street Mile” will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at 9 a.m. (kid’s fun run at 8:30 a.m.) on Main Street in Farmingdale. The event is held in memory of a long-time fixture at Long Island road races — John McManus. Families and recreational runners are encouraged to join elite participants in the event that will benefit Pat LaFontaine’s Companions in Courage Foundation (www.CiC16.org).
LaFontaine said, “This is a great way for families to kick off the Labor Day weekend. I am looking forward to seeing Long Island come together for such a great cause.” The hockey hall-of-famer’s foundation builds interactive game rooms in children’s hospitals. Their most recent room opened at Cohen Children’s Hospital at North Shore-LIJ in April.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Nassau County Legislators Rose Walker and Michael Venditto attended the Farmingdale Dalers Annual Baseball Dinner where they honored graduating team seniors for their hard work and dedication. The Farmingdale Dalers’ Head Coach, Frank Tassielli and Assistant Coaches Michael Marchitto and George Graf also spoke of the teams many accomplishments.
The Farmingdale U9 travel baseball team won the championship of Farmingdale Baseball League’s 911 Memorial Tournament. The team went 4-0 in pool play with wins over the Seaford Vikings , Wantagh Hawks and two over the East Meadow Mustangs. In the playoff round they met the Plainedge Red Devils and dispatched them with a 10-0 victory.
The St. Kilian Saints looking to three-peat as the CYO High Division Champions faced the St. Ignatius Cardinals at Howitt Middle School.The Cardinals pitching kept the Saints bats in check for most of the game, heading into the bottom of the 7th inning trailing 4-1 the Saints bats came alive. Consecutive singles by Chris Stewart, Brett Davies, Brandon Carbanaro, Mike Anzalone, and a huge two-run double by Andrew Streppone tied the game at 4. With the bases loaded and no outs Ryan Goldberg singled through the drawn infield to drive home Mike Anzelone to win the game and the championship. St. Kilian 5—St. Ignatius 4.
Lacrosse teams from across the region are invited to a major fall tournament sponsored by the 2013 New York State Girls Lacrosse Champions, Farmingdale’s Lady Dalers.
The event, scheduled for September 29 at Farmingdale High School, is open to any and all teams ranging from grades three through 12. The all-day event runs from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
