Farmingdale Lacrosse Alumna Is A Champion

Thursday, 18 July 2013 00:00

As the saying goes, you can only win a first-ever championship once, but in Lauren Maksym’s case, that is not entirely true. She has now done it twice. As a Farmingdale High School senior (2009), Maksym, a high school All-American and Long Island player of the Year, helped lead her Farmingdale Lady Daler’s to an undefeated season and their first-ever state championship.

On May 26, the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team made history by defeating the University of Maryland, in triple overtime, in what would be the longest NCAA Division 1 Championship game ever played in the sport. Giving UNC their first-ever national championship title in program history. The Tar Heels progressed to the championship game by previously defeating reigning National Champion Northwestern in a semi-final game. Maksym (2013), a goalie, on the UNC team, helped lead the Tar Heels to an 18-3 season.
