Farmingdale High School was awarded the School of Distinction award by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for its excellence in sports and in the classroom. Each of the school’s 26 varsity teams earned the Scholar Team Distinction by achieving a 90 average or higher within the classrooms, while performing exceptionally well in their sport.  
 

Islanders Host 3rd Annual Charity Golf Outing

On Monday, Sept. 27, New York Islanders fans had the opportunity to play 18 holes with Islanders players, coaches and alumni on the Red Course at the Bethpage State Park Golf Course. Tee-off for the shamble-style tournament started at 1 p.m.

The Farmingdale Hawks had a successful opening to their 2010 season this past Sunday after six weeks of practice during a grueling summer. There are three teams of 5-6 year olds this year. The season kicked off in front of a nice crowd at Howitt Middle School. The White Hawks were led down the field on their first possession by Brandon Greco handing off the ball to Devon Wallick and Jerry Tagliavia. Their first touchdown was scored by Amier McCorvey behind the blocking of Thomas Palermo, Walter Balcaceres, Rick Franco, Dan Napolitano, and Michael Ippoliti. The “White” defense had great line play from Derick Angarita, James Zanelotti, Ty Droge, and Jovanni Gully.  JoJo Burriesci, Joseph Bleck, Matthew Brandemarte and Thomas O’Neill made key tackles. Special thoughts go out to Nicky Napolitano who was injured in the second half of the game after playing a phenomenal first half of football. Get better soon Nicky!

 

Jaguars Compete in Woman’s Summer Adult Fast Pitch League

Under the direction of coaches, Terry Errigo Vitale, James Keenan, and Nat Corrao, the Jaguars finished with an overall record of seven wins and five losses in the Wesco Woman’s Fast pitch Softball League. Overall, they produced 107 runs and gave up 67.

After 45 minutes of football at Don Snyder Stadium Sunday, Sept. 19 the Dalers’s Kevin Wahl scored a touchdown on a 65-yard run to give the team a 20-12 lead. In a tough battle against the East Meadow Jets, this eight point lead with 2:42 left in the game should have been enough to win the game, but what happen in the remaining time stunned the Dalers.

 

Farmingdale PAL Season Kicks Off

The 2010 PAL Flag Football season kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Woodward Parkway Field and Allen Park in Farmingdale. This year’s Opening Day festivities were centered on fundraising for local resident and leukemia patient, Jake Amato. Hundreds of flag football parents and friends opened their hearts and extended charity in support of Jake and his family.

Joe Morris Wins the Sands Point Sprint for Feinstein Institute Feinstein Institute Sprint

Joe Morris, a 19-year-old Farmingdale speedster, steadily pulled away from defending Sands Point Sprint champion William Slattery of Garden City to score an eight second victory in the Sands Point Sprint for the Feinstein Institute on Saturday, Aug. 14. Morris’s winning time was a race record of 17:14, breaking Jon Cuomo’s race record set in 2007 of 17:21.
