Get ready to horse around as the first annual Northeast Equine Expo comes to town. Expected to draw nearly 30,000 people to the Long Island communities of Elmont and Floral Park, the expo will be the kick-off event for the final leg of the Triple Crown Belmont Stakes Race on Memorial Day weekend, May 29-30.
Now in its eighth year, the Farmingdale Relay for Life is set for June 11-12, to be held once again on the Farmingdale State College great lawn. Teams are encouraged to walk the track in the hopes that each step they take, is a step closer to finding the cure for cancer.
Autocraft got back to the winners side Friday night, beating LaCorte Family Auto, 15-12. Autocraft scored 10 runs in the first two innings, and then had to hold on in the late innings. Denny “Ace” Oehl held on for the victory, pitching despite a desperate comeback try by LaCorte. He was backed by a strong defensive effort, with rookie Don Simone, Aldo Balducci, and Tommy Vanasco. Aldo also led the way offensively along with rookie Chris Piccininni, Joe Lutz, and Brian Landy.
Two very tough athletes from Farmingdale, David Borg and Amy Goldstein, were among the 150 endurance athletes who successfully completed the 8th annual Long Island Greenbelt Trail Runs on May 8.
This week started off well for Paradox Cafe as they had a full complement of players to actually field a team versus Changing Times Pub recently. After giving up two runs in the first inning, Paradox Cafe heated up with 10 runs. The infamous O’Shea’s two-out rally was magically transferred to the new Paradox Cafe. The whole lineup hit from top to bottom as Paradox stroked eight consecutive two-out hits.
After three tough loses in April against St. Anthony’s 16-12, Garden City 18-15 and Wantagh 23-15, the Lady Dalers lacrosse team regrouped and put together three important wins to start off May.
Isabella Corrao and Kelly Ann Keenan, continue to lead the Lady Dalers softball team recently. In the last four games, Corrao has pitched a season-high 17 strikeouts, a one-hitter, a two-hitter, and her second no-hitter of the season. In conference play, the Lady Dalers are 7-3 against the most elite competition in Nassau County.
The 2010 Farmingdale Lady Dalers JV Softball Team was off to a rough start recently. With the team consisting mostly of freshman and having moved from Conference 3 to Conference 1, Coach Passante had her work cut out for her.
The Dalers’ Boys Lacrosse team went 3-0 recently to improve their Conference 1 record to 3-0 and 5-2 overall.
The girls of the seventh-grade St. Kilian CYO volleyball team, coached by Patty Johnson, recently clinched the first-place spot in their division with a regular season finish record of 25 wins and five losses.
