Over the Hill Gang Holds Its Annual Christmas Breakfast

Friday, 01 January 2010 00:00

Former members of the Over The Hill Gang softball league, who played for the Barboy team, held their annual Christmas breakfast on Dec. 12 at Bollinger’s Restaurant in Farmingdale.

While memories may have faded regarding on-the-field exploits, the players’ friendship has endured. Often referred to as the team of the ’80 s, Barboy won six league championships between 1979 and 1986. Although no individual remains active in league play, most still participate in league activities and fund raisers.

Top finisher from Farmingdale was 27-year-old David Bogh, who crossed the finish line at the John F. Kennedy Middle School on Broadway in Bethpage in 18 minutes, 17 seconds, scoring seventh place overall and third in the highly competitive 25-29 age group.

Two determined Farmingdale ladies did especially well in the Athena Weight Division. Colleen Gardner, a 32-year-old who took first place honors in the Athena 160-pound plus weight division, finished with a time of 26 minutes, 22 seconds, and 27-year-old Kate Raab scored third in that same division with a time of 28:58.

Two Hawks Teams Bring Home Championships

The Farmingdale Hawks completed their 2009 season with two teams, the 10’s & 11’s, completing championship seasons at Mitchell Field in Uniondale.    The 11-year-old Hawks survived an early scare as the Bellmore Braves jumped out to a 6-0 lead on their first drive after turning the Farmingdale over on downs to start the game. The Hawk defense, not happy about giving up the drive, responded quickly with a lot of pressure as Myles Mills blocked the PAT.  As is so often the case, the missed extra point would loom large.
