The Dalers Swimming and Diving team opened the postseason with a second place finish at the Division A Swimming and Diving Championships at Eisenhower Park last weekend. Bested only by Great Neck South, currently ranked as one of the top two teams on Long Island, the Dalers beat Massapequa, Herricks, Westbury, and Conference I seed Syosset.
Picnic reservations for the coming season may be made at Nassau County parks beginning Monday, Feb. 1, announced Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. Reservations can be made for the following parks:
The Farmingdale Boys Swimming and Diving team finished their dual-meet season with two wins against Great Neck North and Sewanhaka. Coached by Ken Ilchuk, Randy Corcoran and Kelly Harris, the Dalers’ dual meet record for this year was a very competitive 10-2.
Farmingdale’s Over the Hill Gang Softball League is holding registration Jan. 22, Jan. 27 and Jan. 29, 7:30-9 p.m., at Allen Park on Motor Ave in Farmingdale.
Runners and walkers of all ages and levels of ability from Farmingdale and surrounding communities are invited to test their training and endurance levels by being a part of the 13th Annual Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella and Yedid Kings Park 15-Kilometer Run. The run will take place on Saturday, March 13 starting at 9 a.m. at the New Discovery Elementary School on Lawrence Road in Kings Park. Additional parking will be available 3/8 mile away at Kings Park High School.
Farmingdale High School is proud of its student-athletes not only for their performance on the field, but also their performance in the classroom. For the fourth year in a row, every one of Farmingdale High School’s fall varsity sports teams has been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete Team by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). This honor is given to teams that maintain an academic average of at least 90 percent during their sport season.
The Boys Varsity Swimming and Diving team travelled to Suffolk County to face powerhouse West Islip recently. Led by senior captains Connor Burke, James Farrington, Paul Giglio, Joe McCabe, Steve Makropoulos, Victor Quijano and Bobby Zeno, the Dalers came from behind to win 94-88. Coached by Ken Ilchuk, Randy Corcoran and Kelly Harris, Farmingdale was led by first place finishes by junior Greg Carman in the 200 Freestyle, senior Gary Alaimo in Diving, Farrington in the 500 Freestyle and junior Joe Scaglione in the 50 and 100 Freestyle.

A group of good friends formed a flag football team this past fall, known in the Town of Oyster Bay as the Howitt Cowboys, under the Coaching of Wally Seyfert, and played in Town of Oyster Bay’s Long Island Flag Football League.
They went undefeated the entire fall season, won every playoff game against teams from all over Nassau County and went on to win the Championship Game on Dec. 27 with the score of 13-0, naming them Town of Oyster Bay Long Island Flag Football Champions. Congratulations to all the boys! They had an awesome season!
Former members of the Over The Hill Gang softball league, who played for the Barboy team, held their annual Christmas breakfast on Dec. 12 at Bollinger’s Restaurant in Farmingdale.
While memories may have faded regarding on-the-field exploits, the players’ friendship has endured. Often referred to as the team of the ’80 s, Barboy won six league championships between 1979 and 1986. Although no individual remains active in league play, most still participate in league activities and fund raisers.
