Farmingdale Golf Team Wins LI Championship Game

The Farmingdale Golf Team recently won the Long Island Championship Game. They are the new Long Island Champions. This comes just after clinching the title of Nassau County Champions. Three members of the team, Brandon Romano, Kurt Brey and Matt Lowe have also qualified for the New York State Championships to be played at Cornell.
 

Lady Dalers Win Long Island Championship

After defeating the Massapequa Chiefs 14-6 in the Nassau County Class A Championship game at Hofstra on June 2, the Lady Dalers defeated the Northport Tigers 13-12 at Hofstra last Saturday to capture their fourth straight Long Island Class A Championship.

Against Massapequa, Melanie Raso’s goal with assist by Janine Hillier, the Lady Dalers started their scoring drive within the first minute of the game. Hillier would score 30 seconds later, for a 2-0 lead. Kelly McPartland would score twice to put the Lady Dalers up 4-0, and Massapequa would call a much-needed timeout. The Lady Dalers’ defense of Brittany Hushion, Tara Coyle and Regina Bates held the Chiefs to just one goal in the first half, and they were up 6-1.

On Thursday, May 28 the Dalers Lacrosse team took on Baldwin at Hofstra in the Nassau County Class A Semifinals. In a close game Joe Celano tied it up 6-6 with nine minutes left in the game. Baldwins defense kept the Dalers offense away from the cage.

Autocraft got back on track with a 23-10 win over a revitalized Lacorte Family Auto Service. Rich Dargie was rock solid on the mound with some fantastic defensive efforts behind him. John Garrity was terrific at short turning several double plays with Aldo Balducci at second.

Only Undefeated Softball Team in Nassau County

The 2009 Varsity Lady Dalers continued its quest for an undefeated season as they played seven games this past week and won them all. The Lady Dalers, under the direction of Coaches Laura Malone and Brandon Oppenheim, are Conference Champions of AA –III. They are the only undefeated team out of 57 programs in Section VIII. The Lady Dalers finished with an 18-0 record overall. Pitchers Stephanie Ringbauer had eight shut outs and Nicola DeVine added one during the season. The offense produced 211 runs and defense gave up only 29. Playoffs begin on May 21, they are ranked 12th.

The Farmingdale High School JV softball team won their last five games to complete their season finishing undefeated with 17 wins. Playing five games in five days they beat Port Washington 14-1, Hicksville 3-0, Uniondale 19-0 and Herricks 12-0 and 6-1. As she did in every game of the season, sophomore Tori Kornfeld (17-0) pitched them to victory. She threw her second no-hitter of the year versus Herricks (allowing just one walk and striking out 13). She also one hit Uniondale and Hicksville (her fifth and sixth of the year). She received tremendous hitting support from the team all year. Hitting stars in the Uniondale game were: Denise Dessel (4-5), Hannah Soluri (3-4), Nicole Hayden (3-4) and Tori Kornfeld (3-4). In the Herricks game Amanda Rivera and Hayden went 2-2 with Soluri and Kornfeld providing key doubles. The team, under the leadership of Coach Jacqui Passante scored 228 runs and let up just 11. They had eight shutouts and held their opponents to only one run, six times).

Moby Drugs remains the hottest team in the league, beating Zwanger Pesiri 19-1 Friday night. Once again it a combination of tough defense and relentless hitting that sparked the team. Moby banged out 26 hits including triples from Vinny Misuraca and Tom Zarek. 

 

Maghakian Wins Silver Medal at Nationals

Samantha Maghakian, a ninth grader at Farmingdale High School, recently competed in the 2009 Junior Olympic Level 9 Eastern National Gymnastic Championships in Tupelo, Mississippi. She captured the silver medal on Floor Exercise earning a score of 9.325. This meet was the culmination of this year’s competitive season and included the best gymnasts from around the country at this level. The top six gymnasts from each region were invited. Samantha’s Regional Championships were held last month in Danvers, Massachusetts, where she captured two gold medals (Floor and Vault) in addition to a silver medal for the All-Around. In addition to balancing 18 hours a week training at Mid Island Gymnastics in Hicksville, Sam is a high honor roll student.

Farmingdale Soccer will hold registration for the 2009 fall and 2010 spring seasons at Allen Park in the Meeting Room on the following dates: Saturday, May 16 and 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, May 17 and 31, from noon to 2 p.m. Registration fee for both seasons is $140. Lady Daler Varsity Softball Remain Undefeated

The Lady Daler’s continue to be the only undefeated team in Nassau County. Their present record is 11-0 in Conference I League AA III. They picked up two more wins this past week under the direction of Coaches Laura Malone and Brandon Oppenheim.
