PEANUT 1: Luke Begeley, Luke Eschman and Marissa Karlsen (who also had a TD run) formed the “Steel Curtain” on defense this week combining for a total of 14 flags for the Steelers. The offense was firing on all cylinders led by Katie Hecker’s three touchdowns. Dean Kott had an 80-yard TD run, a TD catch and an interception. Emma Savino pitched in with a long TD run up the left sideline while Andrew Adamo had a long run up the right sideline. Hunter Kinhackl hurt his leg early but showed his toughness by returning to the game and making contributions on both sides of the ball.
PEANUT 2: The Saints and the Steelers met up on Sunday morning at Woodward Parkway under beautiful skies. Rachel Palillo, Logan Arcuri and Anthony Tafuro all played amazing two-way football for the Steelers, with Anthony getting his first touchdown of the year. For the Saints, Jimmy “J-Train” Caputo was strong on defense, with the teams’ first interception of the year. Also for the Saints, Dominick Mezzanotte had two long runs from scrimmage and two pulled flags. The teams cannot wait to play each other again!
The Giants and Patriots played a very competitive and very fairly matched contest. Kain Riddiough, Ryan Loughlin, Seamus Vereline and Kevin Corrigan all scored touchdowns for Big Blue. Eric Gardener and Tristan Smith starred for the Pats. Most importantly, both teams had fun and continued to grow as football players.
PEE WEE 3: The 3rd grade Vikings improved to a perfect 6-0 with an impressive victory over the 49ers. Quarterback Chris Kosinski threw four touchdown passes to his star receivers. Anthony Ventiere and Philip Pierro both had two touchdown receptions each. Tyler Kretzmer led the defense with an interception in the end zone and pulling flags all over the field. Aiden Ng and Mike Ragusa were both on the receiving end of long passes. Troy Dubiel and Spencer
Rustyak led the rushing game with big runs.
The Redskins played a tight game against the Patriots. Peter Fernandez connected with Bryan Birki for a touchdown. Tommy DeRespino ran the ball well gaining some big yards. The defense played very well with and interception by
Brendan Gigante and great pressure from Christian Mall and James Hammelman.
The Jets and Titans played a thrilling high scoring game on Columbus Day Weekend with the Jets coming out on top after being behind by two touchdowns early. The Jets were led on offense by the stellar play of Josh Behar who ran for two TDs and scored another TD on a beautifully thrown pass by QB Mike Connolly. The other stars for the Jets on offense were Luke Stephans who caught a pass from QB Gavin Vega and ran it in, Vega who also threw a second TD pass to
Joe Walsh and connected with Walsh for an extra point. Matt Cangelosi caught a pass from Behar for a critical first down late in the first half and Jason Chung ran for long yardage off of a handoff. On defense, the Jets had key interceptions from Walsh and Stephans, and nice pass coverage by Behar and Connolly. Robert Trey Rowland and Christian Medrano played hard on both sides of the ball. The Titans, who jumped to an early lead were led by the thrilling play of Dillon
Mehta who ran for two long TDs and got contributions from all of their players on both sides of the ball.
The Saints had a dramatic comeback win on the last play of the game, 25-24 over the Broncos. Andrew Koukos wrestled in an extra point catch after a long touchdown run by Aiden Gillen tied the game with three seconds remaining. Joe
Bleck had a beautiful catch down the middle from Gillen to keep the drive alive as time was running down. It was a total team effort as Bleck and TJ Preiss each caught a touchdown pass and Bleck also ran for one.
Anthony Matheis played great defense and threw for a TD. Preiss had an interception and threw a TD pass. Andrew Aldieri made an unbelievable diving flag-pull to save a sure touchdown and anchored the Saints defense. Koukos caught three passes to keep a number of drives alive and made the final play to win the game against a tough Broncos team.
JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS: The 7th grade Lady Giants defeated the Lady Steelers 24-13 behind a four-touchdown performance by Sophia Iaccino. Alissa Kevan started at quarterback and threw three touchdown passes. Anna Decker led the rushing attack with several long runs. Nicole Kosinski led the defense pulling flags and blocking passes. Jenna Thompson contributed on both sides of the ball by rushing the quarterback and receiving passes.
