In a tough battled game at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium last Saturday, the Dalers out lasted the Syosset Braves in a game of penalties and turnovers. The Dalers would receive the ball first and QB Vinny Quinn would have a 50 yard pass complete to Curtis Jenkins and the Dalers would move the ball down field until Syosset’s Brandon Nieves would intercept the ball in the end zone stopping the Dalers drive. After a few plays the Braves would fumble the ball on the 50-yard line to be recovered by the Dalers Joe Lee. After a few penalties the Dalers would have a second and 35. Vinny Quinn would complete a 26 yard pass to Tom Kennedy, then a hand off to Curtis Jenkins for a 30 yard run would give the
Dalers a first and goal on the 7 yard line. But a penalty would push the Dalers to the 12-yard line. Vinny Quinn would keep the ball on a run and score the Dalers first touchdown giving them the 7-0 lead with 3:46 left in the first quarter.
The Braves would come right back with a 47 yard pass play from QB Hunter Gross to Michael Elardo for a touchdown tied the game.
In the second Quarter the Dalers would put up 14 more points. With 3:22 left the Dalers would put together a 93-yard drive after stopping the Braves on a fake Field Goal attempt. Curtis Jenkins would run the ball 5 yards for a Daler
Touchdown. Tom Kennedy would intercept the ball with 1:41 left in the half giving the Dalers the ball on their own 15-yard line. They would take the ball 85 yards in four plays to include a 45-yard pass from Quinn to Michael Outing for a touchdown giving the Dalers a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Styvenson Hogarth would score for the Dalers on a one yard run at 8:34 of the third to make it 28-7, but the Braves would come right back controlling the ball and stopping the Dalers offense. At 4:13 of the third, the Braves would score on a 5 yard pass form Gross to Anthony Carchietta to make it 28-14. The Braves would not give up, stopping the Dalers offence again and again. Gross and Elardo would connect for a 5 yard touchdown making it 28-21, but with only 35 seconds left in the game. The Braves would try an onside kick, but it would go out of bounds giving the ball to the Dalers at the 50-yard line and the win.
Curtis Jenkins rushed for 187 yards on 22 carries and had one touchdown. QB Vinny Quinn passed 6 for 11, 195 yards and one touchdown. Syosset’s QB Hunter Gross passed for 272 yards and three touchdowns. During the season the Dalers defeated the Braves 48-14, but this was a much harder game for the Dalers. The Dalers are now 10-0 this year and out scored their opponents 406- 96. The Dalers will now take on the Massapequa Chiefs for the Nassau County Conference 1 Championship on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Hofstra. This should be another great rivelery and close game.
