Farmingdale Devils Provide July 4th Fireworks

The Farmingale Devils Travel Baseball teams were in action during The 4th of July weekend and provided fireworks in two different states.

 

The 11U Devils won their third tournament this year. They traveled  to Connecticut for the fourth of July tournament. The Devils lost game one on Saturday 7-5 to the Connecticut Defenders and won game two 17-0,The Devils advanced to the playoff round and would meet the Defenders again .The bats were on fire all day led by Big Joe Mcgrath and Nick Franco.The Devils beat the Defenders 11-5 and advanced to the championship to play the number one seed and undefeated Hit Club. The Devils jumped out to 4-2 to lead .The game was tied at 9-9 going to the 6th inning and the Devils would score 2 runs and hold on to win the tournament. The Devils had 52 hits and scored 44 runs,Big Joe had 4 doubles a triple, Nick Franco had 8 hits. Anthony Quatromani 8hits.Matt DiSanti drove in the last run in the championship game. Tim Dorman 6 hits. Patrick Quinn 5 hits and 6 stolen bases. Nick O'Connor 3 hits and 4 stolen bases. Kyle Gaertner 6 hits and was winner pitcher in championship game. Patrick Sanchez was the winning pitcher in semi-final game.

 

The U10 team competed in the Garden City Fourth of July tournament. In the pool play round, they defeated the Elmjack Clippers by a score of 12-2 before squeaking out tight wins over the Plainedge Red Devils 5-4. The offense was highlighted by Nick Disanti 2 RBI double to give the Devils the lead. Michael Bloom went 4 solid innings in relief of Ryan Prisco to earn the win. Next up was a battle with the tough North Bellmore/North Merrick Rebels. Torin Kasselbaum and Nick Disanti had run scoring hits to stake the Devils to a 5-0 lead. The Rebels were shut out by Devil pitcher Nick Napolitano though three, but scratched for four runs in the fourth to close the gap.  Timmy Purack relieved in the 5th and earned the save. In the playoff round the Devils faced a rematch with the Elmjack

Clippers. Gavin Weststock provided 4 innings of solid pitching and the hot-hitting of Michael Bloom and Ryan Prisco staked the Devils to a 4-0 lead. Nothing was easy on this weekend and the Clippers rallied to pull within one in the last inning. Devil Catcher Robert Traitta threw out the potential tying run, stealing a base, then moments later threw off the mask to catch a pop-up to end the game and send the Devils to the championship. In that game the Devils faced the Levittown Rays. The Rays got off to the good start and led 3-1 after the 3 innings. In the fourth inning the Devils exploded for 7 runs, highlighted by a Matt Brandimarte’s 2 RBI double and then Nick Napolitano’s 3 run homer to finish the onslaught. The Rays would not go away however and fought back to within one. Devil pitcher Shane Schwartz entered with the tying runs on base in the 4th inning and retired the side without allowing another run. Schwartz then put the Rays down in order in the 5th and then struck out the final batter on the game to give the Devils the championship. This is the third title this year for the U10 Devils. The Devils are a Farmingdale based not for profit organization that focuses on providing a year round travel baseball experience for kids.
