Floral Park residents will go to the polls on Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 9 p.m. to elect three village officials. Running on the Citizens Party ticket are Trustee Ann Corbett for mayor, Trustee Kevin Greene for re-election and Trustee candidate Gerry Bambrick.
Citizens Party Campaign Chairman Dominick Longobardi has asked voters "to come out and vote to show their appreciation for the past service of the candidates and show their support for the future. Each candidate has a proven record of public service and deserves the support of our residents."
Voting will be held at John Lewis Childs School, Atlantic Avenue Firehouse, Astoria Bank on Covert Avenue, Holland Avenue Firehouse, Our Lady of Victory School, and Floral Park Memorial High School. Anyone needing a ride or information should call 775-0435.
Ann Corbett, mayoral candidate, has been active for 35 years in many local organizations. She is not related to the current mayor, Steve Corbett.
Trustee Ann Corbett has been on the board for 13 years and has served as police liaison, and commissioner of the fire department, buildings and public works, library and recreation, Future of the Library Committee, liaison to Architectural/Site Plan Review Board, Council for Cultural Affairs, National Organization for People with Disabilities, past chair of Substance Abuse Prevention Council, member of Zoning Board of Appeals, board member of Historical Society, president of Friends of the Library, officer of American Legion Auxiliary, OLV Catholic Daughters, CCD teacher, Floral Park Women's Club, vice-chair of Citizens Party, Republican committeewoman, Southside Civic Association, Art League, Mercy League, Chamber of Commerce, West End Civic Association, and received the PTA Life Member award and a founding board member of "Waterbill Watchdogs."
A 35 year resident, Ann Corbett is a registered nurse and part-time nurse-supervisor of a home health care agency and owner of a local business in Floral Park. Her husband Bill has a law office in Floral Park and they have three children who all attended local schools, Bill Jr., Spencer and Sally.
Trustee Kevin Greene, former fire department chief, has been on the board for six years and has been commissioner of public works, recreation, library, liaison to Substance Abuse Council, Cultural Affairs, Library Exploratory Committee, Indians soccer and baseball coach, member of North End Civic Association, Citizens Party co-captain, Spirit Committee chairman, and works for Con Edison. A 35 year resident, Trustee Greene is married to Janet who is co-owner of JJ's dance studio and he has four children, Heather, Brian, Stephen and Julia.
Trustee candidate Gerry Bambrick has been president of the Hillcrest Civic Association, Floral Park noise abatement officer, member of the Covert Avenue renovation committee, recreation committee, parking study committee, and is a partner in the law firm of Bambrick & Ryan with offices in Floral Park. He has a law degree from St. John's University, and is past chairman of the Citizens Party. Gerry serves as a member of the Nassau County Planning Commission, Nassau County Board of Ethics, member of Floral Park Lions Club, a volunteer attorney with Catholic Charities, past president of the Floral Park Republican Club and committeeman, and Indians soccer coach. He and his wife Mary, also an attorney, have three children, Chris, Shelia and Danny who all attend John Lewis Childs School.
Citizens Party Chairman Jim Rhatigan said, "We hope that our residents will vote on Tuesday to show their support for our candidates even though they are unopposed. They would appreciate a vote of confidence."
Trustee Ann Corbett also served as a delegate to the White House Conference on libraries and information services, was active in the nursery schools and mother's clubs at the Methodist and Lutheran churches, Junior Girl Scout leader, troop organizer and worked with Boy Scout Troop 4. She was president of the Floral Park-Bellerose PTA and officer/board member of the Alva T. Stanford Jr. HS PTSA, Floral Park Memorial PTSA and Sewanhaka Central Council of PTA's where she served on two district-wide committees. A graduate of Niagara University she chairs the Floral Park Tree Grant Committee, and is a former member of the New York State Senate Health and Hospitals Advisory Committee and the NYS Education Department Substance Abuse Curriculum Advisory Committee.
Trustee Kevin Greene was raised on Magnolia Avenue. His children attend Sacred Heart Academy and Our Lady of Victory School. A member of the fire department since 1979 he is still active and in addition to working his way up through the ranks to chief, since 1994 he has been chairman of the fire prevention program which contributes to the education of fire safety in the community. During his tenure as recreation commissioner significant changes have been made in the Recreation Center including renovation of the kiddie area, now known as "Tiny Town," refurbishment of the basketball and tennis courts, completion of the lighting upgrade, replacement of the front fence, refurbishment of the baseball field "1", implementation of the leisure pass program, and addition of a stage for future outdoor programs.
Trustee Greene has worked at Con Edison for 21 years and is a project specialist in the environmental, health and safety section of maintenance and construction services. When not working he is involved with the Little League Baseball program.
Trustee Candidate Gerry Bambrick was research editor of the law review while studying at St. John's University Law School and was the recipient of the St. Thomas More Scholarship. He received his undergraduate degree from the Catholic University of America and is a graduate of Archibishop Molloy High School.
