Standing room was in short supply as hundreds of Floral Park residents attended the recent swearing-in ceremonies for Mayor Ann Corbett and Trustees Kevin Greene, Gerry Bambrick and Thomas Tweedy at the Floral Park Village Hall followed by a reception.

Trustee Ann Corbett had the oath of mayor administered by her husband, retired Floral Park Acting Village Justice William J. Corbett. She is the first woman ever elected mayor of the Village of Floral Park since its founding in 1908.

Trustees Greene and Tweedy were sworn in by Floral Park Village Justice Douglas Hayden.

Trustee Gerry Bambrick took the oath of office from his father, retired New York State Supreme Court Justice Eugene Bambrick.

Speaking after a standing ovation to an audience which overflowed into the hallway, Mayor Ann Corbett pledged to continue to work in the best interest of all the residents of Floral Park.

Mayor Corbett singled out numerous local volunteer organizations, especially the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department, for their service to the community. She said that she would encourage more volunteerism and participation of local residents in village activities, support expanded New Resident Committee activities and the four civic associations.

Mayor Corbett said that "the best is yet to come" and said the village would continue to be fiscally strong with an eye on keeping taxes as low as possible while delivering essential services. She concluded by saying, "I humbly ask for your continued support and promise to do my utmost to preserve all that is good from our past and endeavor to improve our village for the future."

Trustees Greene, Bambrick and Tweedy also expressed their appreciation to the voters who elected them in March and pledged to work to improve the village.

Mayor Corbett announced assignments which include: Mayor Corbett will serve as fire commissioner and liaison to the police department, village engineer, village prosecutor and Chamber of Commerce.

Trustee Phil Guarnieri will be deputy mayor, buildings commissioner, supplies and accounts, liaison to South Side Civic Association, Board of Architectural & Preliminary Site Review and New Residents Committee.

Trustee Kevin Greene will be Public Works Commissioner and liaison to the North End Civic Association, Heritage Park Committee, Beautification Committee and Conservation Advisory Council.

Trustee Gerry Bambrick will be recreation commissioner and liaison to the Hillcreast Civic Association, Substance Abuse Prevention Council and Council of Cultural Affairs.

Trustee Thomas Tweedy will be library commissioner and liaison to the West End Civic Association, Citizens with Disabilities Committee and Four Village Studio.

Tymecki, Sopt. of Buildings Stephen L.
