"Now that our President has made the decision to go to war against Iraq, there is no question our military personnel will be supported by our community. There is tremendous support for those who are now engaged in war for the sake of all Americans. Together we pray for their safe return to their family and friends and for the successful conclusion of their mission, which will ultimately secure for this nation a more peaceful, less threatened homeland.

"Our community, through groups like the American Legion, is prepared to assist the families of military personnel away from home. Anyone who knows a military family needing assistance can call 775-6849 to speak with a member of the Legion.

"The nation is on orange alert once again. Residents are urged to have on hand in their homes emergency supplies. A three-day supply of food and water, a battery operated radio, flashlights, medications and other essentials for family members and a list of contacts outside of the area where we live. It is also a good idea to keep at least a half tank of gas in all vehicles.

"Our Emergency Management Task Force has been meeting over the past several months on a regular basis. Local government, including our police and fire department personnel, the Public Works Department and officials will work together should the need arise in relation to homeland security and possible threats that might impact our village and our residents.

"Hopefully the war will end within weeks and the threats of terrorist attacks will diminish. We pray for the day the troops will begin to return home and the world will be at peace."
