Prior to the first major snowstorm of the season, which dumped more than a foot of snow on the village, Floral Park Public Works Superintendent Ken Tymecki discussed snow removal plans with Public Works Commissioner Trustee Phil Guarnieri and Trustee Tom Tweedy.

Floral Park has 11 plows, three pay loaders, two Bombadiers and three snow blowers and has stockpiled 100 tons of salt and some 200 tons of sand. Sand is available to residents free of charge at the parking lot opposite the playground on Stewart Street.

Some 40 to 50 village employees become involved in each storm to clear the 37 miles of village roads and 40 dead ends. In anticipation of the stormy weather, this fall the village removed over 17,500 tons of compacted leaves.

In the future, residents are asked not to throw or blow snow into the street and to throw the snow to the right of their driveways. With four passes per street, plows have to travel at least 148 miles to move the snow.
