Last weekend, the actors of the Our Lady of Victory Drama Club presented Seussical Jr., thrilling show-goers who adore not only the classics of Dr. Seuss, but the work of their own local Floral Park actors.
Seussical Jr., written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, combines the much loved Seuss tales of Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and many others into one story.“Horton teaches everyone how important each and every one of us are; Gertrude learns to love herself the way she is; Mayzie learns to be less selfish and to think of others—so many great lessons that we need to remember every day, no matter our age,” said Donna Lindskog, club moderator and show director. In the show’s Playbill, she said, “One lesson I continue to learn is that we learn so much by watching our children. I watched a cast work hard and come together as one...I watched them support each other and share themselves each week.”
In the first act, performers delivered more than 15 show-stopping musical numbers, including “Horton Hears A Who” and “Gertrude McFuzz,” followed by 13 more musical treats in the second half of the show.
Younger members of the audience were especially taken with the familiar characters on stage. After the show, Horton’s message, A person’s a person no matter how small, was echoed throughout the auditorium by young children eager to meet the talented performers.
