Every so often a team just needs to tip their cap to an opponent who performs outstanding. It was exactly that type of performance by Hewlett’s Avery Feldman that ended Floral Park’s tremendous season in the Nassau County semifinals at SUNY Old Westbury by the score of 82-47.
Feldman scored 30 points to lead the Bulldogs to the finals.
Floral Park, entering the game at 16-4 and ranked No. 7, was unable to match the intensity of Hewlett on both sides of the ball. After that first quarter lead, the Floral Park Knights hit a dry spell on offense, despite great ball movement and shot selection. As the game progressed, they were forced to apply a full-court press which enabled some uncontested shots by Hewlett. There’s no doubt that the constant running took a toll on the team who allowed 48 second half points.
Both teams had their fan base in full force. For the Knights, Kevin Cluess led the scoring with 10 points. Taize Walker and Jordan Butler both added seven points. The team will be losing five seniors to graduation; Cluess, Walker, Butler, Jesse Pittman and Billy Cotsalas.
