Wednesday, 21 August 2013 00:00Louise Claire Murphy of Lakewood, NJ, age 89, died peacefully on July 27, 2013. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry E. Murphy, and leaves behind four children: Thomas, Gregory, and Philip Murphy and Cathy Sabine, raised in Garden City, NY and Ridgewood, NJ.
Louise was the beloved grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of three.
She was employed by and volunteered at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ for over 25 years and was also an accomplished bridge player.A resident of Mahwah, NJ for over 20 years and longtime member of High Mountain Golf Club in Franklin Lakes, NJ, she was an avid golfer.
A viewing was held at D’Elia Funeral Home, Rte. 70 & Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.
Funeral services were held at S. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood, NJ at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Valley Hospital Foundation (memo: The Breast Center), at 223 N. Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.

Prior to the start of high school running season, Garden City’s Physical Therapy Options (PTO) had an opportunity to provide a presentation to members of Sacred Heart Academy’s cross country team. Team members gathered at Garden City’s New York Running Company to learn strategies and tips for a successful fall season.
PTO staff members Dr. Meghan Goetz, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and PTO Aide Mike Murphy discussed the importance of stretching to prevent injury and provided strategies and tips for success for the high school runner.

The league started on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Garden City’s Tullamore Park. It runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. A uniform shirt and soccer balls are provided. Cleats and soccer shorts are recommended and players must wear shin guards. Age groups range from pre-k through 12th grade. Garden City residents and non-Garden City residents are welcome.
