The Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance presents its spring Dance Concert at the Mainstage Theatre May 9 through May 11. Colette and Patrick Coyne, who lost their daughter to melanoma, and their organization, CCMAC, will be hosting their 4th Annual Miles for Melanoma Walk at Eisenhower Park. A free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. The Garden City Clergy Fellowship sponsors monthly Faith in Action events, where members of various faith communities gather together to make sandwiches and assemble bag lunches to feed the needy.
