St. Paul’s alum to be honored

The De La Salle School recently announced that St. Paul’s School for Boys alum and long-time De La Salle School benefactor Douglas Valerio will be the honoree at the 12th Annual Spring Gala. The event will be held on Friday, May 16 at Chateau Briand in Carle Place and will run from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Douglas Valerio is vice president and partner at Mason Industries, Inc., a world-wide leader in noise, vibration and seismic control. He was born in Germany, and attended Garden City’s St. Paul’s School before going on to attend and graduate from Maritime College with a degree in ocean engineering and a Merchant Officer’s license in 1984. Valerio started working with Mason Industries, first in engineering, then sales, then as the New York representative, and now as vice president and partner. Mason Industries has worked on most of the acoustic and vibration-sensitive construction projects worldwide, including all of the world’s tallest buildings and most of the world’s performing arts centers.

Since 2009, Valerio has served as a member of the board of trustees of The De La Salle School. He has been a generous supporter of the school and its students, including his leadership as chair of the gala committee in 2012. The Munich native has been a multiple student sponsor for many years and is a key benefactor of the Graduate Support Program, including providing a $15,000 matching grant for the De La Salle’s Triple Your Impact initiative. This past year, Valerio has donated time, expertise and provided significant funding for the newly-renovated gym floor at the school.

This munificent benefactor’s generosity, success and personal dedication makes him a unique role model for all De La Salle gentlemen and a fitting and distinguished gala honoree.

Donations derived from the 12th Annual Gala honoring Douglas Valerio help build The De La Salle School Scholarship Fund. Freeport’s De La Salle School is a scholarship middle school in the Lasallian tradition, serving young men from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
