Garden City Coaches Receive Top Sportsmanship Awards

Congratulations to the Garden City Public Schools’ coaching staff who were recently honored with two sportsmanship awards. Nassau County athletic officials from all sports annually choose 10 teams of the 57 competing Nassau County school districts to receive sportsmanship awards.

Garden City’s entire varsity coaching staff was voted as one of the “top 10” recipients of the 2009 Sportsmanship Award.

The coaching staff includes: Garden City High School coaches Rich Smith, varsity baseball; Reid Sclafani, varsity wrestling and varsity girls golf; Erin McKinstry, varsity boys tennis, varsity assistant gymnastics and junior varsity girls tennis; Charlie Cuzzo, varsity girls cross country and varsity spring track; Scott McAuley, varsity girls soccer assistant coach and junior varsity girls lacrosse head coach; Mike Heedles, varsity girls soccer head coach, middle school girls and boys basketball and junior varsity boys lacrosse assistant coach; Paul Cutter, varsity boys soccer assistant coach, strength and conditioning coach and girls varsity golf assistant coach; Marissa Reichman, varsity softball head coach, and Garden City Athletic Director Nancy Kalafus. Also honored was the boys’ varsity baseball team and Coach Rich Smith.
