There is no keeping a good Trojan down – not fitful rain, gusty wind or a tough opponent on the field. In a shut-out of 28-0, Garden City’s varsity football team made this year’s Homecoming game one to remember.
The Garden City Recreation Department is now registering for the 2nd session of our Children’s Tennis Program at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Registration begins immediately for residents of the Village of Garden City. This session of tennis will begin the week of Jan. 4 and run through April.
On Sept. 24, three Garden City High School social studies teachers boldly went where others have gone before, but they did it on their bicycles. Mark Quigley, Rob Wiedenhoft and Kevin O’Hagan joined Dr. Kenneth Jackson on his annual “All-Night Bike Tour” of New York City from midnight to 5 a.m.
The Garden City Recreation Department will run a preschool arts & crafts program in Cluett Hall for children who are 3.5 to 5 years of age. This program is open to Garden City residents only. Each week your child will make a project to take home following the seasons, holidays or other interesting topics. Our classes run for six weeks and are 45 minutes long. We will hold classes on the following days and times:
Tuesday at noon begins Nov. 10
Thursday at 12:15 p.m. begins Nov. 5

Holy Cross junior tennis player Matt Wierzel of Garden City was named Patriot League Male Tennis Player of the Month for September. It is the first time in program history that a Crusader men’s tennis player has been so honored by the Patriot League.
The Recreation Department is offering Yoga for Children in Cluett Hall. This class, taught by Connie McKnight, is open to any resident ages 6-12. The schedule is as follows:

Most teams need a punishing defense and a balanced offensive attack to be successful. The Garden City Trojans appear to have that and a whole lot more.
Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla recently attended the first of a kind baseball game at Garden City Community Park between the Harlem Black Yankees and the Garden City Bombers. Town Clerk Bonilla had the distinct honor of throwing the first pitch.
Matthew Colantonio, starting catcher for the Amsterdam Mohawks of the New York State Collegiate Baseball League, won the NYCBL championship for the summer 2009 season.
The Recreation Department’s Junior Tennis team will be holding tryouts for residents ages 9-18 at the Community Park Tennis Facility on Oct. 3 and 4.
