The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that 10th-grader Olivia Adragna recently took the bronze medal at the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships in Memphis, TN this past February.
After sustaining an injury this past year that prevented her from taking part in fencing competitions and dropping in national rankings in the cadet category (under 17) from ninth to 28th, Olivia finished in third place out of 168 fencers at the annual event. “I fenced well in the first round and finished second after the pools,” said Olivia. “I won all my elimination bouts pretty easily.”
This April, Olivia will be traveling to Heidenheim, Germany for three months of study at the Heidenheim Waldorf School, as well as continuing her skills in fencing.
Organized by the United States Fencing Association (USFA), the Junior Olympic Championships are the national championships for the junior and cadet fencers in each of the three weapons (epee, foil, and saber), for boys and girls.
