Teachers Give Contract Proposal a Failing Grade
A large contingent of teachers employed by the Glen Cove School District attended the board of education meeting on Jan. 25 in the Landing Elementary School. The teachers contract expired on June 30, 1998. The president of the Glen Cove Teachers Association, (GCTA), Joan Thompson, made a statement on behalf of the union's rank and file. She said, "We were given an offer that was demeaning and insulting. None of the fact finders proposals in his report appeared to be taken with any consideration at all. The teachers and professional staff have acted in good faith during the association's negotiations.

Ballet New York based in Sea Cliff will add to Long Island's many cultural offerings.On Jan. 25, the board of directors of Ballet New York, Inc. announced the formation of the new professional ballet company with plans to begin presentations in 1999/2000.

Vikings Fall to Hicksville Stars
The Hicksville Stars outscored the North Shore Vikings ice hockey team on Jan. 23 by a total of 4-2. The game featured a pure hat-trick by Hicksville's captain Tom Tyson, who scored three goals in a row in the first period.
