Maccarone Heads GOP Ticket for Election '99
The Glen Cove Republican City Committee has unanimously selected its candidates for the upcoming fall mayoral and city council election. Joseph M. Reilly, the City Committee Chairman, said, "Republican representatives from all over the city of Glen Cove have once again chosen candidates who have already proven that they are committed to interests of the residents in Glen Cove. John Maccarone, a tried and true legislator and a record of positive involvement in all aspects of community life, will head the slate and is looking forward to a winning run against the incumbent mayor."

American Community Bank to Open on Glen Street
By this fall, liquid assets will have a new meaning for a particular site in Glen Cove. For several months, now, residents have watched the former location of a neighborhood bar develop into what will soon be the home of the American Community Bank. With the necessary approvals in hand, the new bank's board of directors are hopeful that the bank will be ready to open by Labor Day.

Glen Cove Vipers are Waldbaum Cup Soccer Champions
The Glen Cove Vipers are the 1999 champions of the Waldbaum's Cup/LI Soccer Challenge in the U-14 Intermediate Division. This is the fifth year the Vipers have participated in this tournament. The single elimination tournament fields 32 teams per division. Previously, the best the Vipers had achieved was advancing to the quarterfinals in 1997. This spring the Vipers won all five rounds, to be crowned champions.

Gavosto is Point Leader After Two Jr. PGA Tourneys
Steve Gavosto of Glen Cove, last year's Jr. PGA golf division champion, took the undisputed lead in the points total after Monday's second event held at Sunken Meadow State Park. "When I came into the final hole and closed out with my fifth straight par I knew I was in the seventies (78) and possibly in contention for the first place win. Unfortunately, another score of 76 was posted and that would be the low net for the day in that division.
