Long Beach Legislator Shifts Alliance to Suozzi
As Nassau County Democrats prepare to head to the polls on primary day, Sept. 11, Nassau County Legislator Michael Zapson, (D., 4 LD), who previously supported State Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli in the race for county executive, said he will now lend his support to Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi. He announced his switch during a news conference on Aug. 14 in Mineola.

Glen Cove Sweats It Out With Water Restriction
During last week's record-setting temperatures, Glen Cove enacted its Emergency Planning and Response Plan instituting water restrictions banning non-essential water usage citywide. The restriction was conveyed through the utilization of various city department personnel. It was in effect for 48 hours and was lifted prior to this past weekend. In the event of a future water emergency, residents will be informed through the city's public awareness efforts including written and verbal notification. On a day-to-day basis, the ban will be conveyed via this program. The water usage ban is lifted automatically if the program is not implemented the following day.

Mayor's Snapper Derby Set for Sept. 15
Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi has announced that the annual Snapper Derby in Glen Cove will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15. This is a rain or shine event and starts with registration at 8:30 a.m. Registration closes at 9:30 a.m. Fishing continues until 11:30 a.m. with awards and prizes to follow. The only requirements are that participants are between the ages of 6 and 16 and that they bring their own rod and reel. There are junior and senior age divisions and first, second and third prizes will be awarded in each division. Each year an award is given to the best angler.
