Suozzi Approves Glen Cove as Empire Zone
Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and Legislator Brian Muellers have announced that a new Empire Zone has been approved for the City of Glen Cove, a step that will establish "tax-free" business sites to help spark new private sector investment, job creation and economic expansion for the local community.

Police Close Case of Hit and Run on Sea Cliff Avenue
The Glen Cove Police Department has released information regarding the outcome of the hit and run incident in Glen Cove on Monday, August 5. At 11:34 p.m. that night, William Matovich, also known as Robert, 48, was struck while crossing Sea Cliff Avenue, north to south, by a car traveling eastbound, which fled the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Comanchees Compete in International Invitational
The Comanchees went to Pennsylvania on July 21 to play in a week- long international tournament. First up was Team Japan. Before a packed crowd at Highland High School, Glen Cove capitalized on some rare errors to pull out an 8-2 victory. In game two against Freeport, the Comanchees scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to record a 10-1 victory. Games three and four against Kiski and Natrone saw the Comanchees coast to bring their record to 4-0. Game five against Power House Franklin Regional was a tight 4-1 victory and game six against the overall favorite Hempfield was a close 5-2 win. Game seven against Swissvale was a night game at which the Comanchees made every play to record a 5-2 victory and a 7 game win, 0 game loss record in their age bracket.

Mill River Rod and Gun Club Sponsors Snapper Derby
The third annual Pat and Jimmy Carroll Children's Snapper Derby will be held this year on Saturday, September 7 at West Harbor Beach at Bayville from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Immediately following the sporting event will be food and prizes at the Mill River Rod and Gun Club.
