The public is cordially invited to join the board of trustees and the staff of the Glen Cove Public Library as they celebrate the opening of the library's new expansion, offering innovative new facilities that it hopes will better service the community's needs.
The downstairs community room has been refurbished and expanded to include additional meeting space and new kitchen facilities. An outdoor ramp offers convenient access to the downstairs meeting rooms, and a new bathroom and elevator will accommodate wheelchairs comfortably, thus providing ADA compatible facilities. An additional art gallery has been added upstairs behind the fiction collection that will enable the library to feature a variety of exciting exhibits in a contemporary setting.
Featured speakers at the celebration will include Dr. Richard Harris of the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture who will speak about the recently published book, The Splendid Steamer Glen Cove, written by Edward Magnani and published by the Glen Cove Public Library. Mr. Magnani will offer a brief presentation introducing his book, and Dr. Harris will also discuss other books that have been published by the library, including Memorandum of a Jaunt, the diary of explorer Peter S. Townsend.
The Aquarelle Club, Long Island's water color artists' association, will exhibit works of local scenes in both the library's new upstairs gallery and in the community room downstairs. The Aquarelle Club was founded in 1958 to further the interest in water color paintings of various styles.
Please join us for this long-awaited celebration. Local dignitaries will attend, including Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp and the project's architect Herbert Beckhard. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Glen Cove Library. For further information, please call 676-2130.
