Christmas Day 2002 dawned gray and raining, with visions of water in the basement dancing in some homeowners' heads. But at 2 p.m., one raindrop managed to turn into a snowflake, copycat raindrops followed suit, and before long our community was blanketed in the elusive cliche of a white Christmas. Snow came down hard and fast, with anywhere from seven to nine inches covering the ground. Those new sleds had their bows torn quickly off and weatherproof boots and pants were put to the test.

Ordinances and Common Sense for a Safe Snow Day
A Glen Cove ordinance requires property owners to shovel and clear their sidewalks within 12 hours of a snowstorm's end. Gutters and drains must be free of ice and snow. When ice can't be removed from a walkway, it is required that the area be covered with sand or other material that will make walking safe. It is the responsibility of each property owner to clear the end of their individual driveways after the plows come through.

Undefeated Football Season for Glen Cove Middle School
The Glen Cove Middle School football team finished the season with a 6-0 record. This marked the first undefeated season in more than 10 years.

The team has high expectations this year and looks to good leadership by seniors Alex Hojnowski, Matt Grefe, James Doran, Adam Braithwaite, Russell Barbour and Damian Ross. Captains are Hojnowski, Grefe, Ross and junior Eddie Murray.
