  • News: State of the City? "We Are in Great Shape"

    Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp, the first woman mayor in the history of Glen Cove, gave her first State of the City address to a standing-room-only assemblage in City Hall on Tuesday night, Feb. 11. Among other assertions of Glen Cove's successes during the time she took office, Mayor Holzkamp made what is arguably the most long-awaited announcement in recent city history: Glen Cove has a developer for its waterfront revitalization program. Glen Isle Developers, a premier Long Island-based development team headed by Michael Posillico and Donald Monti has, according to the mayor, "unparalleled experience in the field of infrastructure planning and construction. They have impeccable development qualifications and a proven environmental record. [They have] vast financial strength." She added, " [this team] exudes an enthusiasm and passion for our waterfront project equal to that of our city itself." After applause from the audience died down, Mayor Holzkamp emphatically pronounced that "Nothing will stand in our way," and again waited, smiling, for the applause to end. FULL STORY

  • News: Father Thomas Costa Celebrates Silver Anniversary

    St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church was the locale for celebration and jubilation on Sunday, Jan. 26, as Father Thomas Costa, pastor of St. Patrick's, celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood. Joining his parents, family members and parishioners at the 11:30 a.m. Mass were members of Father's former parishes and many members of the deaf community. Father Costa has worked closely with the deaf community on Long Island for more than 20 years. In fact, he helped to start the first deaf council of the Knights of Columbus in the history of the order, Sign of the Cross Council #11254. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Leather to Fly at Golden Gloves Semi-Finals

    Ten semi-final bouts of boxing are coming to the Glen Cove High School, as the 76th Annual Golden Gloves nears the end of elimination bouts held throughout the Metropolitan area. Four local Glen Cove men are among the hopefuls on the road to fisticuff fame. The annual Golden Glove Tournament, started in 1927, has launched many of boxing's stars on their way to fame and fortune. FULL STORY

    Talia Haim and Jessica Lombardi were the high scorers at a meet against Lawrence last week, scoring 29.3 and 29.0, respectively but the Lady Vikings lost overall 120.6 to 147.9. FULL STORY
