City Council Deliberates Routine Agenda
After opening the Glen Cove City Council meeting of April 15, Mayor Holzkamp stated that for the 13th consecutive year, Glen Cove has been designated Tree City USA, and as such, she has declared Friday, April 25 as Arbor Day in the city and is asking residents to join the Beautification Commission in planting trees. Beautification has already planted 25 pear trees around the city. The mayor presented Beautification Chairman Ian Siegel with a citation for the work done, and apologized in advance to anyone whose allergies may be affected when the delicate blossoms blow off the trees.

American Legion Keeps Home Fires Burning
On Saturday, April 19 Glenwood Landing American Legion Post #336 held a rally in support of our American troops serving in the war in the Middle East. Families of men and women currently in service, vets who have been through it all and grateful and appreciative citizens crowded the post headquarters on Glen Head Road to witness rousing cries, resounding applause, and rap poetry by Justin Miller.

North Shore High School Varsity Sports
The Vikings played well but lost to Cold Spring Harbor last Friday. North Shore was the first team in the conference to score a point against that very competitive team. Pat Friscia won at second singles and Gaurav Chandra won at third singles.

Girls Varsity Track Wins Big
The Glen Cove girls varsity track team had a great win on Tuesday, April 15 on the high school track. The scores were Glen Cove 75, West Hempstead 55 and Bethpage 30. This year's team is comprised of three middle school students, 25 ninth and 10th graders, two seniors and two juniors. First place finishers from the meet were seventh-grader Danielle Silas in the intermediate hurdles, eighth-grader Rebecca Aguilera in the 1500 meter run, eighth-grader Bridget Parker in the 400 meter run, ninth-grader Megan Avram in the shot put, 10th-grader Katelyn Eric in the discus and senior Amanda Moretto, team captain, in the triple jump. The 4x400 meter relay also took first place. Those runners were Bridget Parker, Kristin O'Connor, Melanie Lazo and Lahaina Laroche. Other point scorers were Angelina Dattolo, Gina Belotte, Alicia Montefusco, Emily Cox, junior captain Giovanna Condello, Emily Keogler, Tami Nedbor-Gross, Carla Genova and Alyssa Rodriguez. Great job and good luck to the team in its remaining track meets.
