  • News: Hiring and Homework Questioned at Board of Ed Meeting

    The Glen Cove Board of Education meeting of April 28 began with Assistant Superintendent Diane Scricca presenting certificates to members of three committees reporting to the board and the administration: the Curriculum Committee, Textbook Committee and Promotional Gateways Committees. School Superintendent Mary Ellen Freeley remarked that the current committees have succeeded better than any with which she has worked before, being focused, clear about their goals and accomplishing those goals within the school year.     With the election for the two available seats on the North Shore Board of Education drawing near, incumbents Julia Brennan and Barbara Palermo and challenger Igor Webb took part in a Meet the Candidates Night at North Shore High School to field questions from local residents and present their visions for the future of education in the district.   • Sports: Big Red High School Sports

    The Glen Cove boys' varsity lacrosse team split two games recently. In their first game, the Big Red took on the Mustangs of Mineola. Despite several first half penalties, the Big Red and the Mustangs ended the half tied at 4-4. Gianluca Carrabs scored three of the goals, the last on a feed from Jason Lindenbaum with just 46 seconds left in the half. Dom Bocchino added the fourth goal and two assists in the half. Goalie Danny Marks kept the Big Red in the game stopping 16 Mustang shots in the half. FULL STORY

  • Sports: North Shore District's Annual LAX Day, Saturday

    The North Shore Athletic Department reminds the community that its annual Lacrosse Day is this Saturday, May 3. The PAL boys' youth team and girls' youth team will kick off the day at 9 a.m. on the stadium and upper field, respectively. At 9:45 a.m. there will be a modified seventh grade boys game at the stadium and a modified seventh grade girls game at the upper field, both against Manhasset. The modified eighth grade boys team will play Great Neck North at the stadium at 11 a.m. and the modified eighth grade girls team will face Carle Place at the same time, on the upper field.
