From the Halls of the Firehouse, Marines Parade for Dan Daly
Dwight Eisenhower once remarked, "What counts is not the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog." Truer words could not be spoken of Glen Cove's own Daniel Daly, a two-time Congressional Medal of Honor winner. Measured by stature (5'6" tall and 135 pounds), Daly was not a big man. Measured by his accomplishments, the United States Marine was larger than life. Daly earned his first Medal of Honor in 1900 during the Boxer Rebellion when he single-handedly manned a defensive barricade in Peking, China. Attacked by the Chinese throughout the night, Daly repulsed all advances on his position until reinforced.

Suozzi Presents Economic Development Plan
Before introducing his economic plan, Mr. Suozzi remarked, "For the first year and a half that I've been in office, I have spent 90 percent of my time trying to work out the county's financial woes and 10 percent on long term economic growth. I'm now starting to spend 70 percent on finances and 30 percent on economics." These are the two main focuses of his attention.

Get Your Rod and Reels Ready for August 23
Don't let this one get away! The Glen Cove Mayor's annual Snapper Derby is set for Saturday, Aug. 23 this year. Registration will only be from 8:15 until 9:30 that morning. Fishermen ages 6 to 10 years old can register in the Junior Division. Pescadores ages 11 to 16 years old can register in the Senior Division. There is only one requirement: you must have a rod and reel.

Landlubbers Welcome to Join Swimmers at Morgan Park
On Saturday, Aug. 16 more than 110 swimmers aged 11-75 will brave the waters of Long Island Sound to participate in the fight against cancer here on Long Island. These dedicated aquanauts are part of Swim Across America's second annual "Sound to the Cove-Swim to Fight Cancer" hosted by the City of Glen Cove in beautiful Morgan Park. If you would like to join the supporters of this illustrious fundraising event, come down to the beach at Morgan by about 8:30 a.m., and you can cheer on swimmers of all ages and abilities, from our community and all over Long Island who will be diving in and heading for shore, where they will be greeted with accolades, towels and brunch. Members of Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S. will be working hard to make the day as successful as it was last year. Don't miss it if you can make it.
