Presentations Begin and Confrontations Conclude GC Meeting
The city council approved a change to the ordinance regarding time limits of parking on School, Glen and Bridge Streets, encouraged by the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown BID. Most spots in the downtown area are presently one hour parking, and are being changed to two hour, as many downtown businesses are finding that one hour is not sufficient time for a shopper to shop, especially if she (or he) wishes to make purchases in more than one store, would like to browse and even have lunch. A resolution was passed authorizing the creation of the Highland Road Heritage District. This will not put any restrictions on homes in the Highland Road vicinity, but property owners will now have the right to erect a permanent sign, indicating that the premises is located in a heritage district and stating the date the building was built.

Leech Circle Park a Tribute to Dennis Brian Murray
On October 4, Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp will dedicate a restored Leech Circle Park in memory of a local Vietnam hero, Dennis Brian Murray. Dennis was born and raised in Glen Cove around the corner from the park where he enjoyed many a playful afternoon. He was killed in action in South Vietnam on June 12, 1969. Mayor Holzkamp said, "The refurbished park will include a playground given to our city by Friends Academy. Thanks to a monumental volunteer effort by members of Local 138 Operating Engineers, members of Local 66 General Building and Laborers Union and City of Glen Cove CSEA personnel, the park will be a fitting tribute to a young man, a hero, from the neighborhood who died while serving our country."

This year's team has three varsity players returning from last year and unfortunately has lost eight senior girls. The team this year looks like it has more chemistry than before. The great work ethic and the respect for one another are terrific; these girls want to get better and they work hard ever day that they are on the court.
