GC Council Tables Charter Changes
Nothing goes as expected in politics, and anyone looking for a quiet summertime Glen Cove City Council meeting was in the wrong place on Tuesday, Aug. 24. The meeting began with a public hearing to discuss the possible amendment of Chapter 2-1B of the city charter with regard to length of term for elected officials. The Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce initiated and promoted the idea, and asked the city to put a public hearing on the agenda.

Local Sk8r Boy Places Fourth in Competition
Skateboarder Jesse Lee McEneaney recently competed in his first competition at the Extreme Skate Park in Mount Sinai, placing fourth in a field of 36 contestants aged 14 to 19 years old. Jesse has been skateboarding for five years now and working on the "extreme" components of the sport, ramps, stairs, ollies and grinds, for three. Not impressed? Perhaps you will be when another figure is added to the equation. Jesse is eight years old.

North Shore Athletes Compete in Empire Games
North Shore sophomore Catie DeStio and senior Amanda Longobucco received silver medals for competing in the NY State Empire Games. Catie, who plays field hockey, enjoyed the experience and strongly urges more athletes to try out for these games. Amanda, an accomplished lacrosse player, won the second place silver medal after her team lost only one game.
