Mayor Holzkamp Appoints Tenke to City Council
At the opening of the Tuesday, Jan. 11 city council meeting, Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp offered a resolution, enthusiastically and unanimously approved by council members, appointing Tim Tenke to the Glen Cove City Council. Mr. Tenke, an attorney and third generation Glen Cover, will serve the unexpired term of former councilman Charles Lavine who was elected to the State Assembly last November. Ms. Holzkamp stated that with his unique expertise, Councilman Tenke will be an asset to the city council as the team builds on its commitment to moving Glen Cove forward.

Lavine Sworn In as Assemblyman
County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi was in his hometown city council chambers at the meeting of Monday, Jan. 11, but not seated at the dais as in days past. The county executive came to the chambers of Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp to swear in Chuck Lavine as State Assemblyman for the 13th District. To a SRO crowd, Mr. Suozzi praised Assemblyman Lavine, but had an equal share of acclamation for "the many, many supporters who worked so hard to get him to where he is today." After the swearing in, witnessed by Mr. Lavine's wife, Ronnie; son, Greg and daughter, Andria, the new assemblyman addressed the assemblage.

Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports
Now that the holidays are behind us, the roundball season is starting to heat up. The Big Red basketball team is set to make another run for the playoffs. Glen Cove has been playing a very difficult non-league schedule, which hopefully has them ready for the 2005 season.

Coach Marra would like to recognize the players who received awards at the end of this memorable season. Forward Michael Frey and goalkeeper Zachary Travis were awarded the team's Most Valuable Player awards at the fall season's awards night in November. At the Nassau County Soccer Coaches Association awards dinner held in December, four North Shore players received awards for their superior performance on the playing field. Defender Sean Clampet and goalkeeper Zachary Travis received All Conference honors. Forward Mike Frey and midfielder Ian Grabill received the All County awards. The varsity team, as a whole, was awarded the coveted Conference Sportsmanship award.
