The Glen Cove boys varsity lacrosse team started its spring break off on the right foot, with a 13-4 win over Hempstead. The is the 100th win of Big Red Head Coach Steve Tripp's career.
The Big Red jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter. John Simon and Alex DiScala scored just 20 seconds apart, to start the scoring. Kevin Armstrong scored on a feed from DiScala, followed by two of Jesse Abrams four goals on the day. Brian Bianconi and DiScala had the assists.
In the second quarter, Glen Cove again registered five goals. Abrams led the scorers with two goals and an assist. Simon, DiScala and Keith Dillon also scored in the period. Defenseman Mike McCrindle, Simon, DiScala, and Abrams all had assists. With the game in hand, Glen Cove went to a ball control offense. DiScala replaced a steady Sean Huggins in the goal, and the Big Red defense of Zach Brown, John Anderson, Jamison Rossel, Mike Norman, Victor Sanchez and Cedric Steed held the Tiger offense at bay.
Billy Nicholas and two more Dillon goals rounded out the scoring for Glen Cove. Simon and Abrams added second half assists. Matt Marchetti, Zach Stern and David Ayo provided steady play for the Big Red. Glen Cove's next home game is Saturday, April 30 at 10 am.
