North Shore Boys & Girls Club is planning a fall program for its already well-received Lacrosse Developmental Clinic for first and second grade boys and girls. The fall clinic will now include third graders, to prepare them for the spring lacrosse programs. This clinic is an outside field program. The location will continue to be the rear fields, located behind the Boys & Girls Club.
The clinics will begin on Saturday, Sept. 24, and run through Saturday, Nov. 12. The time for each session will be 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The only equipment required will be a lacrosse stick and mouthpiece. There will be no contact and this program is focused on teaching basic lacrosse skills, along with developing hand/eye coordination. Therefore, the decision was made to eliminate helmets, pads and gloves, at this level.
As previously announced, the volunteer coaches all are former players from successful high school programs including, Garden City, Great Neck South, Manhasset, Our Lady of Mercy and Port Washington. College lacrosse experience includes: C.W. Post, NC State, UMASS, U of PENN, Syracuse and Tulane.
The fee is $75 per child.
Registration for lacrosse will be held on Sept. 12, 13, 15, 16, and 19 through 23. from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the North Shore Boys & Girls Club, 200 Glen Head Road in the Glen Head Community Center, located between the firehouse and the American Legion Building in Glen Head.
Sign up sheets will be distributed at the elementary schools the week of Sept. 6.
