Current New York State Swim Champion Elizabeth Goldson has qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials in two events. Elizabeth, who's going into her senior year at Glen Cove High School, beat her previous best time in the 800 meter free at the U.S. Junior National Championships in Irvine, California by over 16 seconds. The time cut for the 2008 Summer Olympic Trials is 8:50:49. Elizabeth's time of 8:43:70 was good for a silver medal and places her in the top 50 in the world and 11th in United States.

In the 400 meter free, Elizabeth shaved a few seconds off her previous time to clock a 4:16:35, collecting her second silver medal of the meet. The time standard for the 2008 Summer Olympic Trials in the 400 meter free is 4:19:39.

Elizabeth had her eye on qualifying in the 200 meter free, but missed the Olympic Trials time standard of 2:03:30 by a fraction. She clocked a 2:03:85 for a second place finish at the championship meet. She has two years to reach her goal in this event, but hopes to achieve the time standard by next summer.

Elizabeth is coached by Dave Ferris of the Long Island Aquatic Club. The Long Island Aquatic Club girls took second place at the U.S Junior National Championship.

With her impressive times in the pool, and her strong academics, many top colleges and universities are interested in Elizabeth, who said "This has been an extremely busy and exciting time. I am meeting many of the top coaches at the collegiate level, many with Olympic coaching experience. I look forward to my fall recruiting trips and hope to make a decision later this fall." In the meantime, she will refocus training back to defending her two state titles in November.
