By Ian Kamen

The Varsity volleyball team completed its week by winning two of three matches. They began the week by beating Carle Place in three straight games. Lauren Ko led the team with 14 kills, and Melanie Guardino provided 14 assists. Suzanne Long and Liz Muscarella each had 12 service points. On Wednesday, they lost to an undefeated Garden City team. The girls played hard, but were overmatched by a more experienced squad. On Friday, the girls beat New Hyde Park for a homecoming win, winning in three straight games. Everyone on the team played exceptionally well and had a hand in the win. Next week the team has one game on Thursday. It is at home, versus Mepham.

Field Hockey

By Kellie Moritz

The North Shore field hockey team's record now stands at 8-1 after three wins this week against Floral Park, Great Neck North and Smithtown West. Sarah Koch and Kelly Ann Henry both scored their first goals of the season.

Junior Kelly Henry and senior Maeve McGilloway ran the midfield this past week to help give the Vikings their win. The North Shore defense included seniors Blair Clancy, Tyler Murphy and Sara Longobucco, and sophomore Sarah Micellotta who persevered, especially during Saturday's victory against Division I, Smithtown West. The Vikings will meet Seaford next Friday.

Cheerleading

By Audra Marcantonio

The North Shore cheerleaders could be seen at every homecoming event this past weekend. The team proudly cheered at the parade and at each game - tennis, volleyball, women and men's soccer, field hockey and football with fabulous performances and endless spirit. The team never tired; their energy, especially at the last exciting event, the NS football game, was contagious and built Viking Pride. This was all done after a week of sign making and hours of preparation for the Pep Rally! So much work went into making Spirit Week a huge success. Each member of the team participated in making signs for every varsity level sport and senior athlete. The cheerleaders also had a blast decorating the football players' lockers and the homes of the senior players. The team's performance at the Pep Rally was electrifying. The athletes dazzled the crowd with an amazing dance routine, complete with five full extension retakes, reloads and an ending pyramid involving two connected liberties. The crowd directed cheer performer demonstrated elite stunts: 3 single-bases, which transitioned to liberties that were connected to shoulder sits.

The cheer team is proud of all of the teams' performances this weekend and deserve some cheers themselves. Their dedication and Viking spirit is very much appreciated and admired. Go North Shore!
