Grants Presentations and Information at GC BOE
At the start of the Glen Cove Board of Education meeting of Monday, Oct. 17, Board President Richard Tortorici announced that he and Don Scarl, president of the Coalition for Glen Cove, recently visited the Carle Place School District to look into the district's use of solar panels, put in place as part of a performance contract. He stated that Dr. Joe Vasti will be meeting with the superintendent of Carle Place to determine if solar panels might be right for the Glen Cove District, as an aspect of energy conservation. In addition to the possible monetary savings, said Mr. Tortorici, the project also contains education merit, teaching students the value of solar energy.

Knights Of Columbus Blood Drive Draws 115 Pints
On Tuesday, Oct. 4 the James Norton Council Knights of Columbus held its bi-annual blood drive with great success. There were 130 donors who registered with The Long Island Blood Service, producing a total of 115 pints of blood received.

Glen Cove High School Bid Red Sports
The Big Red varsity defeated the Clarke HS Rams Saturday by a score of 27 to 14. The Rams jumped out to an early lead scoring on an 82-yard pass play to go up 7-0 before a 70-yard kick return made it 14-6. The Big Red did not panic and before the halftime whistle went off, they had a 21-14 lead. Joe

North Shore High School Viking Sports
The varsity volleyball team had a wonderful win last Tuesday in its only game of the week. After falling behind Oyster Bay two games to one, the Vikings came back to win the final two games by scores of 25-20 and 25-15. Senior captain Lauren Ko with 31 kills and five blocks led the team. Also, senior captain Melanie Guardino recorded 13 assists and played outstanding defense. Seniors Liz Muscarella and Carly Langer contributed 14 assists and six kills respectively. Junior defensive specialist Amanda Magnuson was all over the court making incredible passes to set up the offense. Sophomores Kris MacDonald, Allison O'Connell and Cassie Knox all had their finest matches of the season.
