Glen Cove Mourns Passing of Chetta Rizzo
Glen Cove has lost a lifelong resident and friend, and St. Rocco's Church, a member of its founding family with the death on Nov. 27 of Concetta Rizzo, nee Capobianco. When asked, anyone who knew her will tell you that Chetta's long and significant life revolved around her family and her church. According to Fr. Residents Crowd City Hall for the Hearing That Wasn't
It was standing room only at the Glen Cove City Council meeting of Nov. 22 as more than 200 people filled the main council chambers for, if became clearly evident, one specific agenda item. The item in question was a resolution to change a sentence in the city charter that read, "No persons may be appointed to a board or commission for more than two consecutive terms." The present administration maintains that the proposed resolution was meant to be a formalization of a practice that has been going on for years, allowing qualified professional volunteers to stay on a specific board or commission past two terms as long as he or she was approved and reappointed by the mayor and city council. Mayor-elect Ralph Suozzi, however, feared it might be an attempt to curtail his power in appointing new people to boards and commissions. With that in mind, he had sent an e-mail to some of his supporters and they contacted other supporters and, said Mr. Suozzi, "the grapevine took over." Many people questioned at the meeting were not quite sure why they were there...they just knew "Ralph called."

A High School Rugby Primer
Rugby is the latest high school sport to hit Long Island and the USA. The unique full contact game with a growing following is winning over kids and parents for many reasons. There are no cheerleaders or marching band at games, nor does the game have huddles and timeouts interrupting the flow of the game. The absence of helmets and bulky equipment magnifies the sport's authenticity and natural beauty. Each play presents a head-turning display of athleticism. Coaches encourage team members to learn to play and think on their feet, rarely looking to the coach for advice on plays, except perhaps at the halftime break. Whatever it is, high school rugby is a sporting event that can easily get you hooked. Of course, you've first got to find a local game to watch and that is becoming easier here on Long Island. Each year players are experiencing rugby for the very first time and loving it. With three teams in Suffolk and one in Nassau County, sports terms like prop, hooker, lock and flanker are being heard more often.
