Glen Cove BOE Readies for 2006-2007 School Year
The first order of business was the swearing in of the newly elected board members by district clerk Pat Rant. There were no unfamiliar names or faces; in fact, there might have been a feeling of déjà vu all over again for anyone who has been involved with the Glen Cove Board of Education for the past 15 years.

Soccer Fever Spikes at Italy's World Cup Victory
Hundreds of persone took to the streets in downtown Glen Cove for an impromptu block party, motorcade and celebration following Italy's defeat of France in soccer's FIFA World Cup tournament on July 9, when the Forza Azzurri won the internationally acclaimed trophy for the first time since 1982.

John Maccarone Hall of Fame Golf Tournament July 31
On Monday, July 31 at 7:30 a.m., the 18th Annual John Maccarone Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be held at the Glen Cove Golf Club. Money raised from the tournament goes to the John Maccarone Scholarship Fund, which was set up in honor of the city's late recreation supervisor and founder of the Glen Cove Hall of Fame. To date approximately $35,000 has been awarded to outstanding academic-athlete students. This year, as a result of the 2005 golf tournament revenues, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Stephanie Herbert and Michael Maher, who will be graduating from Glen Cove High School with the Class of 2006.

Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports
The Glen Cove Big Red varsity softball team is now ranked 16th in New York State after the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports ranked the best softball teams in New York State in their July 4 newsletter. Glen Cove is one of only two teams in Nassau County Conference A to be ranked in the top 20 in New York State. Congratulation goes to the all the girls on the team and to Coach Johanson, Coach McDonough, and Coach Crocco-Longobucco.
