North Shore Board of Ed Adopts Goals for 2006-07
At the Sept. 21 meeting of the North Shore Board of Education, trustees adopted four goals for North Shore schools that are founded on the district's core beliefs and mission statement. These goals will also serve to advance the long-range initiatives and objectives set out by the North Shore District's 10-year plan.

Mum's the Word at Glen Cove Beautification Cleanup
The Glen Cove Beautification Commission was honored to have a long list of volunteers to thank. That list includes Glen Cove DPW workers Chris Berka, Rob Colangelo, Adam Sawoch, Thomas O'Rourke, Mario Calderon and Arnold Taylor; dedicated volunteers Vinny Martinez and Terry DellaVecchia with Bill Byrne, Bob LaBaw, Maria Lewis, Diane Beecher, Gloria Graham and Tom Willson; Girl Scout Troop 1467 and Glen Cove High School DECA (Distributional Educational Clubs of America) and CAUSE (Community Action Using Student Empowerment) student members.

North Shore High School Vikings Sports
The North Shore High School varsity football team improved its record to 2-1 on Saturday with an impressive 34-6 victory over Valley Stream North. The Vikings gave up a 72-yard screen pass for a touchdown and went into halftime trailing 6-0. The team then exploded with 17 points in the third quarter. Patsy Vacchio, who finished the day with 95 yards rushing, put the Vikings on the board when he walked into the end zone on a 5-yard run. Place kicker Taylor McGrath gave the Vikings the lead with the PAT. The strong Viking defense held Valley Stream North to three and out and forced them to punt. Dan Grande who finished the day with 124 yards rushing returned the punt to the North 6-yard line. Taylor McGrath then kicked a 22-yard field goal making the score 10-6. On the next offensive series Tim Martino sprinted 32 yards for a touchdown. To seal the victory, quarterback Ronnie Irving, who threw for 114 yards, connected to Martino for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

Glen Cove High School Bid Red Sports
The Glen Cove High School Big Red Homecoming Weekend, replete with games and festivities, begins this Friday, Oct. 6 with the Big Red girls soccer team meeting Friends at 6 p.m. at City Stadium followed by the Big Red boys soccer game against Westbury at 8 p.m., also at City Stadium.
