First Update in Three Decades
The main chambers of City Hall was filled with residents of Glen Cove as well as neighboring communities on Wednesday, Nov. 29 when the City of Glen Cove opened its doors for the first in a series public workshops to address its new Master Plan for the city, the revamping of zoning ordinances and the requisite State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) process. Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi said, "The city has not updated its Master Plan in decades and the existing zoning regulations do not adequately address the city's present challenges and trends. Glen Cove is in need of a unified framework for its future development. The city's current context makes it particularly ripe for planning: strong development pressures, a declining industrial base, a need to preserve neighborhood and community character, and a moratorium on development. The public - residents and other stakeholders - will play a major role in what will be an open and transparent planning process."

Nothing Special at Glen Cove BOE Meetings
From now through June 30, 2007, the Glen Cove Board of Education will not be holding special meetings, resolving instead to make its two meetings each month regular meetings. Special meetings have historically been work sessions for the board, meetings the public is welcome to attend, but at which no one may speak. Now the board can be addressed by the public at all its meetings, with the exception of executive sessions, which are closed to the public, anyway.

Post 336 Walkers Home from San Diego Walk for Breast Cancer
Glenwood Landing American Legion Post 336 Past Commander Richard Langone and volunteers Meredith Brosnan, Barbara Coppola, Moira Winters, Nora Toal, Kathleen Friend and Marianne Langone walked 60 miles in three days to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in and around beautiful San Diego.
