The City of Glen Cove Beautification and Litter Prevention Program will honor Vincent Martinez, Sr. during its sixth annual fundraiser on Friday, April 13 at The Metropolitan Club in Glen Cove. Mr. Martinez (affectionately known as Vinnie around Glen Cove) will receive the Richard J. Creed "Person of the Year Award." Vinnie is being recognized for his green thumb, which happens to be attached to a red, white and blue patriot and a dedicated volunteer to the Glen Cove community.

Vincent Martinez, Sr. doing what he loves...tending to his island in downtown Glen Cove.

Through steadfast perseverance in 1985, Vinnie single-handedly laid the groundwork for the city's adopt-a-spot program when he planted innumerable seeds at what is now know as Vinnie's Island in downtown Glen Cove. Vinnie is a proud veteran and volunteer firefighter with a great sense of humor.

The fundraiser begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $60 per person. Please call Glen Cove Beautification and Litter Prevention at 676-5188 to reserve.
