In last week's Letters to the Editor section, there was a letter from a resident regarding Mr. Spinello's position on the waterfront project. In my opinion, he completely misunderstood what Mr. Spinello was saying.
The message was very clear...the waterfront, as proposed, would not be in the best interest of our city. Short-term thinking and fear of fiscal doom is exactly what the developer is hoping will drive this project to approval. A mere 90 days of due diligence is a blink of the eye in comparison to the snail's pace at which things are moving now.
To think that the sale of the land is going to get us out of debt is another indicator that Mr. Hunt has not done his homework. Are you aware that millions of dollars are still owed to the EPA?
A residential building is only a small component of this project and it is not the only piece we should be concerned about. Mr. Spinello is right on the money and is showing his savvy business skills by thinking outside the box and giving us a glimpse of a project which is doomed for failure in its current form. There is so much more detail needed on this project before we can fully embrace it. If fear of a lawsuit is preventing us from doing what is right for the city, then you are doing exactly as Mr. Spinello said at the city council meeting... surrendering to the status quo...
I don't know about you but I like the energy and enthusiasm Mr. Spinello has. He's not afraid to speak the truth. He's not afraid to tackle the issues and he's certainly not gong to panic.
I, for one, like his keen business sense, analytical skills and willingness to step up to the plate and do what is right for our city...without the politics!
