Glen Cove Village Square will once again be the center of a Chanukah celebration. The menorah lighting is planned for Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
A special menorah contest was announced, with a chance to win $100 at Toys R Us. Anyone who brings a creative menorah design to the lighting will have a chance to win. "I am happy to see that this has already sparked the creativity and imagination in the children as they begin to design their special menorah for this contest," said Rabbi Mendy Heber of Chabad of Glen Cove and Brookville. A group of judges comprised of local fine artists has been assembled.
Traditional Chanukah sufganiot- doughnuts and chocolate Chanukah gelt will be distributed. Judah Maccabbe will be there with a full supply of dreidels
This year there will also be a special show by Daniel the Juggler. Cantor Gustavo Gitlin will sing traditional Chanukah songs. Lively music and Chanukah crafts will assure a fun time for all ages.
Saul Katz, chairman of North Shore LIJ and president of the New York Mets will have the honor of lighting the menorah joined by County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi, Glen Cove Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi and the city council, Assemblyman Chuck Lavine and other dignitaries.
